Panjab University Embraces Eco-Friendly Initiative with 'Vehicle-Free Day'

Panjab University in Chandigarh marked a 'vehicle-free day' this week, answering the call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to cut down on fuel consumption. On Wednesday, faculty members and administrators opted for walking or cycling instead of driving to work.

This initiative follows the Chandigarh administration's prior observance of 'no vehicle day', prompted by Punjab Governor and Chandigarh administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, encouraging the use of public transport, bicycles, and electric vehicles. Under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Renu Vig, the university seeks to inspire students and employees to adopt sustainable transport options every Wednesday.

The drive was part of a broader effort to foster environmental awareness and encourage responsible civic behavior. The National Service Scheme volunteers played a key role in motivating the university community toward sustaining this eco-friendly practice.

Renu Vig expressed gratitude towards those who participated amid challenging weather conditions, emphasizing the need for continued stakeholder feedback to enhance the campaign's efficacy in future weeks.
