Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria underscored the critical importance of emergency preparedness during a mock drill in Sector 17, Chandigarh, on Thursday. The drill focused on situations such as fires and building collapses, with Kataria emphasizing that such emergencies can occur unexpectedly.
Kataria highlighted the readiness of the rescue team, tasked with evacuating trapped individuals, administering medical aid, and transporting people to safety. He also noted the need for structural interventions during rescues, stating that the machinery at their disposal was equipped to handle rescues from significant heights.
The Governor acknowledged the challenges of conducting rescues in severe fire incidents and commended the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for their post-rescue operations. With an emphasis on national security, Kataria explained the demonstration's role in broader preparedness efforts, involving youth from NSS and NCC to educate them on emergency readiness.
