The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued a show cause notice to Air India for operating flights that exceeded the permitted flight time on May 16 and 17, 2025. The infractions were identified during a spot check, with both Bangalore to London flights surpassing the 10-hour limit defined by regulation.

The notice demands an explanation from Air India within a week, warning that failure to respond could lead to severe enforcement actions under Aircraft Rules and Civil Aviation Requirements. The Accountable Manager has been specifically called out for non-compliance with certain civil aviation provisions.

In a broad-based response, the DGCA has insisted on the removal of three officials from crew scheduling roles for repeated breaches and called for Air India to initiate internal disciplinary actions. Air India has complied with immediate reassignment and pledged adherence to safety operations, with oversight provided by the Chief Operations Officer.
