Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav intensified his critique of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Election Commission of India (ECI) concerning the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. Yadav questioned the BJP's handling of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar's farewell and urged BJP leaders to check on his well-being.
Yadav alleged that the voter roll revision in Bihar was politically motivated to benefit the BJP. Criticizing the Election Commission, he highlighted the difficulties faced in creating a new voter's list, especially in a BJP-led government poised for defeat by the INDIA alliance. Yadav's remarks fueled protests in Parliament, leading to disruptions and adjournments.
Protests took center stage inside and outside Parliament, as opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav, demanded a cessation of the SIR exercise. While opposition members disrupted legislative proceedings with placards, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju criticized the protests, urging lawmakers to engage in discussions instead.
