BJP is actively seeking a successor for Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, whose unexpected resignation has stirred political circles. The development gained momentum after RSS's Arun Kumar met with BJP National President JP Nadda on Thursday, in what is considered a crucial discussion post-Dhankhar's exit.
The Election Commission of India confirmed that it has initiated preparations for electing the next Vice President, signifying the government's intent to swiftly fill the vacancy. A senior BJP leader revealed that the shortlist for Dhankhar's replacement predominantly comprises BJP figures, especially those with gubernatorial backgrounds, while NDA allies were subtly informed that the appointee will likely be from BJP ranks.
Dhankhar stepped down earlier this week, citing health reasons and prioritizing medical advice, as communicated in his resignation letter to President Droupadi Murmu. He expressed profound thanks to President Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their support during his tenure. The resignation coincided with the onset of the monsoon session in Parliament, creating a timely backdrop for the ensuing search.
