In a significant move to bolster Sikkim's infrastructure, Indra Hang Subba, the state's Lok Sabha MP, convened a meeting with the Director General of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in New Delhi. The discussion centered on crucial road issues, particularly concerning North Sikkim, targeting the thoroughfare connecting Gangtok, Chungthang, and Lachen.
Subba highlighted the urgency for persistent maintenance of existing roads to ensure year-round access and advocated for an alternative highway to enhance connectivity and resilience. Discussions also included an alternative road alignment near the iconic 32-turning route in Dzaluk, a move aimed at preserving its tourism potential while safeguarding its ecological and cultural significance.
In an exciting development for adventure enthusiasts, Sikkim is set to open new avenues for battlefield tourism. The state government announced plans to open Doklam and Cho La to civilians in September, following New Delhi's nod. These sites, including Nathu La, promise fresh attractions for visitors, enhancing Sikkim's tourism landscape.
