Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has called for a stronger regulatory framework to combat the proliferation of counterfeit pesticides severely impacting farmers. In a bid to enhance agricultural safety, Chouhan mandated transparent protocols in the registration processes administered by the ministry and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
The move comes as farmers increasingly express concerns over the damaging effects of fake chemicals on crop yields and finances. Emphasizing the urgency, Chouhan stressed the importance of a flawless tracking mechanism to deter fraudulent practices. 'We must ensure accountability and take stern action against dishonest sellers,' he stated during a high-level meeting.
Additionally, Chouhan directed a strategic refocusing on enhancing cotton and soybean outputs, instructing ICAR scientists to adopt a mission-driven approach. The aim is to devise a robust action plan based on thorough field assessments, thus securing better productivity nationwide.
