Maharashtra's Bold Move: State-Backed Transport App Initiative Unveiled

In a groundbreaking move, the Maharashtra government is gearing up to launch its own app-based transport service, integrating auto-rickshaws, taxis, and e-bikes under a state-regulated framework. This significant shift will see options such as Jai Maharashtra and Maha-Ride potentially leading the initiative, announced by Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik on Monday.

Minister Sarnaik revealed that the final launch is contingent upon the green light from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar. Development discussions, involving the Maharashtra Institute for Transport Technology and MITRA alongside private entities, will ensure the app prioritizes transparency and efficiency.

The initiative also pledges financial support for youth, offering vehicle loans at a reduced interest rate of 10% through Mumbai Bank. Additional government backing, including an 11% interest subsidy from state corporations, effectively renders these loans interest-free, easing access for unemployed youth. Officials emphasized the app's compliance with Central Government guidelines, aiming to curb exploitation by unauthorized apps, with a pivotal review meeting slated for August 5 at Mantralaya.
