The Haryana State Task Force, dedicated to enhancing the sex ratio, has decisively withdrawn PNDT Act authority from chief medical officers in five districts with declining numbers. This decision emerged from a meeting led by Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Sudhir Rajpal, signifying a firm stance against falling sex ratios.
The task force's emphasis on curbing illegal abortions aligns with its broader 'Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao' initiative. While the state's sex ratio improved from 899 to 905 this year, five districts — Ambala, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Palwal, and Sirsa — demonstrated concerning trends, prompting immediate corrective actions.
Rajpal's orders include deploying enforcement squads and reallocating PNDT duties to neighboring district authorities. Highlighting the need for stringent adherence, he underscored the revocation of licenses for complicit medical professionals and the exclusion of offending institutions from government initiatives. A Rs 1 lakh reward is offered for information on illegal sex determination or abortion practices.
