In the midst of Maharashtra's contentious language debate, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has challenged the mindset that favors English over Indian languages. He asserts that students in Maharashtra should have the option to learn another Indian language alongside the mandatory Marathi, thus fostering linguistic diversity and enriching the state's culture.

Fadnavis criticized the preference for English as detrimental to regional languages and the cultural heritage they represent. He highlighted Marathi's mandatory status in Maharashtra, emphasizing its significance to the state's identity while advocating for the inclusion of other Indian languages in the curriculum.

Assistant Ajit Pawar also weighed in, stressing Marathi's primacy in the state, amid allegations of Hindi 'imposition' due to a government resolution promoting it as a third language in primary education. The contentious move has sparked sporadic violence, reflecting tensions over language policy.
