In a crucial virtual meeting held on Monday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami engaged with District Magistrates from all thirteen districts of the state. The agenda focused on assessing the current status of developmental projects and strategizing for potential emergencies, in light of the recent orange alert from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The IMD has warned of severe weather conditions, issuing an orange alert for the districts of Dehradun, Nainital, Champawat, Bageshwar, Pauri Garhwal, and Udham Singh Nagar. Following this, the Dehradun district administration promptly declared a one-day closure of all schools up to Class 12 and Anganwadi centres on August 4, 2025, as an immediate precaution.
An order released by Dehradun's district magistrate, Savin Bansal, confirmed the closure due to the updated weather forecast predicting intense rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds. The administration underscored the potential risks of landslides in sensitive areas, thus declaring the holiday to ensure the safety of students and children amidst deteriorating weather conditions.
