The Congress government in Telangana has made a significant move by issuing over seven lakh new ration cards, benefitting 31 lakh people, stated Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday. The announcement was made during a video call at the collectors' conference.
Reddy emphasized that the state now has nearly 97 lakh ration cards, aiding approximately 3.10 crore residents. The increased demand for ration cards follows the inclusion of finer rice varieties in the state's supply schemes, replacing the previously distributed coarse rice.
Simultaneously, the state grapples with adverse weather, as heavy rains hit various districts. The India Meteorological Department warns of continued downpour, issuing an alert for thunderstorms and gusty winds, prompting officials to maintain vigilance.
