Nineteen peacocks have been discovered dead on farming land in Tumkur district, prompting deep concern from Forest, Biology, and Environment Minister Eshwar B Khandre. In response, Minister Khandre has directed a thorough investigation, which will be headed by the Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF).

Recent media reports suggest the peacocks may have ingested pesticides. The government is taking these allegations seriously, especially after similar incidents where a tiger and its cubs were poisoned in the Male Mahadeshwar hills.

An investigative team led by the DCF will delve into whether the peacocks died due to direct pesticide poisoning or indirectly by consuming affected crops. The team has been tasked to submit a conclusive report within five days. The minister has also instructed an audit of all wildlife deaths listed under Schedules 1 and 2, with findings to be reported promptly to his office.
