In the wake of severe flooding, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has vehemently criticized the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) for its handling of water discharge. Alleging that the excessive release has resulted in a drastic escalation of flood situations in South Bengal, she described the scenario as a 'man-made catastrophe.'

Banerjee provided data to highlight the issue, revealing a dramatic increase in water outflow: from 4,535 lakh cubic meters in 2024 to 50,287 lakh cubic meters in 2025. She accused the central agency of deliberately targeting the state, asserting that the DVC's actions have led to unprecedented damages, including crop destruction, breached embankments, and mass evacuations.

The Chief Minister has mobilized extensive relief efforts in response to the crisis. District Magistrates have been instructed to map out low-lying areas and flood-prone zones, while relief camps are being set up to provide essential supplies. Teams from the NDRF and SDRF are aiding in evacuations and relief operations. Furthermore, Banerjee criticized the central government for withholding essential flood relief funds and demanded immediate intervention to alleviate the situation.
