Varanasi, a city steeped in history and spirituality, now finds itself grappling with the forces of nature as monsoon rains drive the Ganga River to perilous heights. The rising waters have created a flood-like situation at several ghats, including the prominent Namo Ghat, leading to heightened vigil and response from local authorities.
Amid the challenges posed by the swelling river, education faces disruption as all schools in Varanasi remain closed on August 5 and 6. The District School Superintendent's office issued an official statement clarifying that the decision to close schools is in line with directives from the District Magistrate, affecting all educational boards and classes up to 12th grade.
The crisis response includes visits from Uttar Pradesh Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna to the flood-hit areas, ensuring the distribution of relief materials. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath convened a high-level meeting, sending ministers to oversee relief operations in affected regions to avoid any lapses in management. With IMD forecasts suggesting continued heavy rainfall, the administration remains alert, stressing the importance of accurate information to quell misinformation.
