The Telangana government recently reached out to the Centre, urging it to ensure sufficient supply of urea in response to a forecasted increase in demand during August.
In a letter addressed to Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister J P Nadda, Telangana Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao expressed concern as the state currently holds only 1.09 lakh metric tonnes of urea, while August's requirement is pegged at 3 lakh metric tonnes.
Despite receiving 4.51 lakh metric tonnes from April to July against an allocation of 6.60 lakh metric tonnes, the state expects 1.70 lakh metric tonnes for August, with reliance on domestic supply and imports. BJP leader N Ramchander Rao questioned the state's handling of the situation, despite an increase in supplies over previous years.
