Soybean Crisis: Minister's Swift Action on Weedicide Mishap in Madhya Pradesh

In response to farmer complaints about ruined soybean crops, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan conducted an unannounced inspection of fields in Chirakheda village, Madhya Pradesh. The fields come under his represented Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency, highlighting the impact of farming issues at both local and national levels.

During the inspection, Chouhan found that weedicides, which are intended to target weeds, had instead decimated the soybean crops. The situation raised significant concerns as several farmers had reported similar incidents. Addressing the issue, Chouhan mandated that a high-level scientific committee would look into the matter and take necessary actions.

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research has since formed a panel to conduct a thorough investigation. Chouhan assured the farmers of relief and accountability for the losses and announced plans for a broader campaign against companies producing harmful agricultural chemicals.
