Torrent Group Pioneers Green Hydrogen Revolution in Uttar Pradesh
Torrent Group's new green hydrogen plant in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, inaugurated by CM Yogi Adityanath, represents the first in the state and the biggest Green Hydrogen and Natural Gas blending project in India's City Gas Distribution sector. This project blends green hydrogen with natural gas, promoting cleaner energy usage.

The landmark green hydrogen plant in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, established by the Ahmedabad-based Torrent Group, was inaugurated on Sunday by the state's chief minister, Yogi Adityanath. With an annual production capacity of 72 tonnes, this initiative stands as a significant advancement in India's energy transition landscape.
The project, a collaborative effort between Torrent Power and Torrent Gas, will integrate green hydrogen into Torrent Gas' City Gas Distribution network in Gorakhpur. Blending hydrogen with natural gas will reduce carbon emissions, utilizing current infrastructure to meet hydrogen demand, while supplying households, CNG stations, and industries with this cleaner energy source.
Director Jinal Mehta emphasized that this plant is crucial in fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi's National Green Hydrogen Mission, marking a pivotal step towards net-zero emissions and supporting deeper decarbonization in the transportation and industrial sectors across India.
