In a theatrical police encounter reminiscent of cinematic thrillers, Andhra Pradesh's Nellore district witnessed the dramatic arrest of Bikkera Prakash, who was allegedly transporting 22 kilograms of ganja.
The arrest unfolded when police officers, part of the special Eagle wing, intercepted Prakash's vehicle mid-transportation. In a bold attempt to elude capture, Prakash reportedly rammed his car into the police, injuring Constable Pathan Firoz. Following two warning shots fired by Circle Inspector Sambasiva Rao, the accused was apprehended, and the illicit ganja along with the vehicle was seized.
Further investigation revealed Prakash's extensive record of ganja smuggling across East Godavari, Eluru, and Nellore districts. Senior officials, including IG Krishna and SP Krishna Kant, inspected the injured constable at Nellore Government Hospital, ensuring optimal medical care. Authorities continue their crackdown on drug trade under operations Garuda and Eagle with 23,000 kilograms of ganja seized statewide.
In a related crackdown earlier in August, police intercepted another attempt to smuggle 145 kilograms of ganja from Odisha to Kerala. These operations emphasize coordinated efforts to dismantle drug networks across the region, incorporating new technologies and public cooperation via helpline (1972). Launched in November 2024, the Elite Anti-Narcotics Group exemplifies Andhra Pradesh's resolve in combating narcotics.
