Maharashtra Governor and NDA Vice Presidential candidate, CP Radhakrishnan, landed at Delhi airport to a warm welcome by prominent political figures, including Union Ministers Kiren Rijiju and Pralhad Joshi, alongside Delhi CM Rekha Gupta. His visit follows the BJP's announcement of his candidacy for the upcoming Vice Presidential elections.

BJP National President JP Nadda revealed on Sunday that Radhakrishnan will contend in the VP elections scheduled for September 9, aiming for a seamless electoral process through consensus with alliance and opposition parties. Radhakrishnan has served as Maharashtra's Governor since July 2024, following tenures in Jharkhand, Telangana, and Puducherry.

A seasoned BJP member, Radhakrishnan's political journey includes representing Coimbatore in the Lok Sabha and leading Tamil Nadu's BJP unit. However, his nomination faced backlash from the Congress, labeling him as an "RSS man." The Vice Presidential post, now vacant after Jagdeep Dhankhar's resignation, involves a five-year term and is determined by an electoral college of parliamentary MPs.

The election procedure is rooted in Constitutional Articles 64 and 68 and the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections Act of 1952, mandating a secret ballot within a proportional representation framework as per Article 66(1).
