23% of Jan Dhan Accounts Inactive, Says Finance Minister

Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary revealed that 23% of the 56.04 crore accounts under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) are currently inactive. Uttar Pradesh leads with the highest number of dormant accounts, followed by Bihar and Madhya Pradesh.
To address this, the government has implemented strategies like Direct Benefit Transfers to ensure even inactive accounts receive benefits. Public awareness efforts are ongoing, including a saturation campaign focused on re-verifying KYC details.
In related financial developments, Public Sector Banks have raised significant capital from the market, boosting investor confidence. Additionally, the gross non-performing assets on gold loans have increased marginally for scheduled commercial banks from March 2023 to March 2025.
