The Arunachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board conducted a public hearing on Wednesday for the environmental clearance of the proposed 1200 MW Kalai-II hydroelectric project. The meeting took place in Anjaw district, bordering China, with the development being undertaken by THDC India Limited.
Chaired by Anjaw Deputy Commissioner Millo Kojin, the hearing saw notable participation from State Women and Child Development Minister Dasanglu Pul, who is also the local MLA. Pul emphasized the project's alignment with her late husband and former Chief Minister Kalikho Pul's vision, urging local support by highlighting benefits seen in Uttarakhand's Tehri dam project.
The Kalai-II project, with an investment of approximately Rs 4,000 crore, promises to generate free power worth Rs 318 crore annually, alongside creating around 1,700 jobs. Despite concerns from affected families, officials assured fair compensation, local development, and adherence to environmental guidelines.
