In a commendable rescue operation, Disaster Response personnel on Tuesday saved 200 students who found themselves stranded at the Devbhoomi Institute in Dehradun's Paunda area, following heavy overnight rains that inundated the campus. The severe weather has wreaked havoc across the region, damaging roads, homes, and infrastructure.
Upon learning of the students' distress, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) quickly mobilized a team to the site. According to the SDRF, the operation was executed with precision and urgency, providing a safe evacuation for all students amid challenging waterlogged conditions.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited several hard-hit areas, including Sahastradhara and Raipur, to gauge the damage. Significant infrastructure like a 100-meter-long road in Maldevta saw destruction due to the torrential flow of water. The Chief Minister reported widespread connectivity issues, addressing media on the ongoing efforts to restore normalcy. Assurances of support came from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, signaling national attention to the crisis.
Dehradun has experienced relentless rain, particularly impacting the Sahastradhara river. The overflowing waters carried debris through Dehradun's main market, causing extensive damage to commercial areas. Businesses along Sahastradhara Road bore the brunt of the flood, facing severe losses and disruptions.
