The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Bollywood actor Sonu Sood and former Indian cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Robin Uthappa for questioning in a probe regarding an alleged illegal betting platform. The celebrities are scheduled to appear at the ED headquarters in New Delhi over consecutive days from September 22 to 24.
The ED's investigation focuses on financial ties and promotional efforts connected to 1xBet, a platform scrutinized for violations of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and other laws. Authorities believe certain celebrities may have endorsed the app, enhancing its credibility despite its illegal status in India.
This isn't the first instance of celebrity involvement in such controversies. The ED previously questioned public figures associated with offshore betting and gaming platforms. As part of a broader investigation, the agency continues to probe these betting platforms for alleged tax evasion and investment scams.
