National Conference Calls for Extended ITR Deadline Amid North India Calamities

The National Conference has demanded a one-month extension for filing Income Tax Returns amid the severe flooding situation across North India. Despite the dire circumstances, the Central Board of Direct Taxes only extended the deadline by one day, which the party believes is inadequate.

Rattan Lal Gupta, the provincial president, has urged the Union Finance Ministry to show compassion by not only extending the deadline but also waiving interest on delayed payments for the Assessment Year 2025-2026. He highlighted the immense challenges taxpayers face in the flood-hit regions where essential infrastructure is failing.

Connectivity issues and damaged infrastructure have compounded the struggles of residents, making it difficult for them to meet their tax obligations. Gupta criticized the central government's insensitivity and emphasized the need for a more substantial relief effort.
