The Delhi High Court has granted a four-week extension of parole to Praveen Rana, a murder convict, to manage and restore his agricultural land that was devastated by recent heavy rains and floods. The court highlighted that his presence is vital for the effective recovery of his farmland, which supports his widowed mother and two children.
Justice Arun Monga emphasized that the agricultural recovery is essential for the sustainability of Rana's family, whose dependence on the land for their survival and education was jeopardized by the natural calamity. The court noted the urgency of financial and agronomic measures to salvage the ruined crops once the floodwaters recede.
The decision came after Rana's counsel argued the necessity of his involvement in the farming process to manage the 1.5 acres of agricultural land, a critical source of livelihood for his family. Despite opposition from the prosecutor regarding the timing of the application, the court deemed the extension justified under these exceptional circumstances.
