In a significant development, Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy announced the launch of an upgraded Corporate Salary Package and enhanced ex-gratia benefits for employees of Coal India, according to a statement from the Ministry of Coal. The initiatives, carefully crafted under the Ministry's guidance, aim to bolster the dignity, safety, and welfare of coal workers across various operational levels.
The measures align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Workers First' and stress the critical role of coal workers in national energy security. A cornerstone of these initiatives is the 'We Care' program, which raises the ex-gratia for mine accident fatalities from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 25 lakh, offering this higher compensation to families of both regular and contract workers for timely support.
The new Corporate Salary Package, branded 'Suraksha Har Karmchaari Ki - United in Security, Empowered for the Future', significantly enhances financial security for Coal India's workforce by providing substantial accident insurance cover. Through partnerships with leading banks, the initiative ensures wide access to benefits without any premium requirement from employees, affirming Coal India's commitment to worker welfare and national energy development.
