As Bihar braces for its assembly elections, political forces are amping up their strategies. The Election Commission of India (ECI) is set to unveil the election schedule, with a press conference planned for later today. The ruling Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) is optimistic, citing a history of substantial achievements over the last two decades.
JD(U) Member of Parliament Sanjay Kumar Jha expressed confidence that the electorate would reward the 'double-engine government.' This term, often used to describe the alignment of state and national governance, refers to the cooperation between his party and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in serving the state's residents. "Elections are a festival of democracy," Jha remarked, "and the public will vote based on the work done in Bihar in the past 20 years."
Meanwhile, the opposition coalition, Mahagathbandhan, led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), with the Congress as a vital partner, feels equipped to challenge the ruling coalition. Congress leader Akhilesh Prasad Singh stated that the Mahagathbandhan is ready to take the reins, banking on a fair electoral process. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has confirmed that the elections will occur before the term of the current State Assembly ends on November 22.
