In a tragic incident, a landslide in Bilaspur's Jhandutta assembly segment claimed the lives of 16 individuals, including men, women, and children, when debris struck a bus traveling through the hilly region. Relief and rescue operations are being conducted by the National Disaster Response Force, local administration, and the Public Works Department.
The incident, which was exacerbated by heavy rains, also left two individuals hospitalized. Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta confirmed ongoing rescue efforts and extended condolences to the bereaved families, ensuring full government assistance.
Efforts continue to locate an 8-year-old boy who is missing. SP Bilaspur Sandeep Dhawal reported that a special rescue operation for the child began at 6:40 am today. Alarmingly, locals indicate similar landslides have occurred in the area recently without adequate preventative measures.
