Pradip Chakraborty, a bamboo artisan from Tripura, has become a symbol of pride for his community after being highlighted in the 133rd episode of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Mann Ki Baat. Chakraborty expressed deep gratitude for the recognition, noting that it has brought a sense of honor to their craft.

Chakraborty credits the success to the support from the 'Tripura Bamboo Mission'. This initiative has spurred a thriving bamboo industry, employing 15-20 women who earn up to Rs 7,000 monthly. Producing 150-200 items such as bags and jewellery boxes, he aspires to expand the business further.

Launched by the Tripura government in 2007 under a PPP model, the mission focuses on developing bamboo plantations, handicrafts, incense sticks, and industrial applications. The initiative has dramatically increased turnover and livelihood opportunities for artisans.

Chakraborty and his mother, both inspired by their ancestral craft, have grown their business significantly with 15-20 employees. Modi's mention of Chakraborty alongside others in the Northeast highlights the changed perception and booming opportunities in the bamboo sector.

By altering past restrictive laws in 2017, the government has facilitated a flourishing bamboo industry in the Northeast. PM Modi emphasized the surge in innovation and employment, encouraging citizens to support artisans by purchasing bamboo products.
