India Ensures Fertiliser Security for Kharif Season
India assures adequate fertiliser stocks for the upcoming Kharif season to prevent panic buying. The government is importing and producing urea to meet demand, maintaining stable retail prices. Efforts continue to promote balanced fertiliser use and prevent hoarding, with state interventions managing supply effectively.
The Indian government has assured farmers that there are sufficient fertiliser supplies to meet demand for the upcoming Kharif sowing season. This reassurance aims to prevent panic buying amid heightened agricultural activity. Aparna S Sharma, Additional Secretary in the Department of Fertilizers, announced that imports and domestic production are balancing the stock needed for effective crop cultivation.
The government continues to keep the maximum retail prices of various fertilisers stable, stressing careful management of resources to avoid excessive use. Significant stock levels, reported to be over 51%, far exceed the typical 33% at this time of year. With ongoing imports and robust domestic production, authorities are confident in managing fertiliser availability.
In response to some regional shortages, states are taking action to curb hoarding and black-market sales. Alongside maintaining a supply chain, the government is also promoting the use of alternative fertilisers through educational institutions. The proactive approach by the government highlights their commitment to agricultural stability and economic security for farmers.
