The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially launched an investigation into potential irregularities and a paper leak concerning the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2026. This comes after a formal complaint was lodged by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, prompting charges under various sections of the BNS, Prevention of Corruption Act, and the 2024 Public Examination Prevention of Unfair Means Act.
The registered First Information Report (FIR) details offenses including criminal conspiracy, cheating, breach of trust, theft, and evidence destruction. Special teams from the CBI have been mobilized to conduct thorough investigations across multiple locations.
In light of the investigation, the government has annulled the NEET-UG exam conducted on May 3, citing procedural integrity concerns. The National Testing Agency (NTA) revealed the decision was based on inputs from central agencies, underscoring transparency issues. A new date for the examination will be announced soon.
