The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) announced on Friday the capture of P V Kulkarni, the alleged mastermind behind the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak scandal. Kulkarni, a Chemistry lecturer with ties to the National Testing Agency, purportedly obtained and leaked the examination content to select students.

During the investigation, the CBI uncovered that in April 2026, Kulkarni, along with accomplice Manisha Waghmare, arranged covert coaching sessions at his Pune home. Here, he distributed the leaked questions, with the handwritten notes of students matching the Chemistry paper from the NEET-UG exam held on May 3.

The CBI's comprehensive inquiry led to Kulkarni's arrest in Pune. Searches executed nationwide have resulted in the acquisition of critical documents and electronic evidence. The legal case was filed on May 12 following a complaint from the Union Education Ministry, leading to multiple arrests across several cities. The ongoing investigation has exposed a network of middlemen facilitating the leak and subsequent coaching for hefty fees.
