Tamil Nadu Ramps Up Power Infrastructure Amid Rising Demand

In response to escalating electricity demand, Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister, C Joseph Vijay, instructed the state-run power distribution corporation to hasten infrastructure development. This direction came during a review meeting where Vijay emphasized the importance of meeting rising urban, industrial, and agricultural power needs.

A priority discussed was fulfilling a key electoral promise: providing 200 free electricity units to domestic consumers using up to 500 units monthly. As his first official move, the Chief Minister signed this order to ensure support for citizens.

Additionally, the meeting addressed the TNPDCL's capacity to meet a peak power demand of 21,326 MW. Steps to enhance power generation, manage consumer issues, and complete ongoing projects like new substation installations and the Green Corridor were outlined. Preparations for upcoming seasonal demands were also reviewed.
