Eradicating Sickle Cell Anaemia in India: A National Commitment

President Droupadi Murmu has highlighted the severe impact of sickle cell anaemia on India's tribal population, praising Madhya Pradesh's proactive efforts in combating the disease. In a recent address, she lauded the state government's initiative to observe World Sickle Cell Awareness Day with a dedicated program.

The president underscored the urgency of addressing sickle cell anaemia, which affects millions globally and is particularly rampant among tribal communities in India. She called for a united effort to eliminate the disease by 2047, emphasizing that the health of citizens is paramount for national progress.

The National Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Mission, a visionary initiative, aims to eradicate the disease through integrated treatment centres offering free essential medicines. These efforts ensure timely diagnosis and management of the condition among affected tribal populations, according to Murmu.
