Argentina's Economic Surge Slows in May
Argentina's economic activity rose by 5.0% in May, continuing year-on-year growth, though it was below the 5.8% forecast. President Milei's austerity measures aid recovery, despite activity slowing compared to April's 8% increase. Financial and fishing sectors significantly expanded in May.

Argentina's economic activity expanded by 5.0% in May, marking yet another consecutive month of year-on-year growth, according to official data released on Monday. While the figure is promising, it fell short of the 5.8% expansion forecasted by analysts surveyed by Reuters.
The South American nation, under libertarian President Javier Milei, has been witnessing a turnaround due to stringent austerity measures aimed at stabilizing the economy. However, growth moderated compared to the 8% expansion recorded in April. Key sectors like finance and fishing saw notable increases of 25.8% and 12.2% respectively.
On a month-to-month basis, however, the economic activity saw a marginal decline of 0.1% in May, following a more robust growth of 1.8% in April, pointing towards the challenges that still stand in the way of sustained recovery.
