Illegal E-Cigarettes Seized in Thane: Health Concerns Rise

Authorities in Thane district of Maharashtra have confiscated a large consignment of e-cigarettes worth Rs 1.88 lakh. This move resulted in the arrest of one person, identified as Rehan Siraj Ahmed Sheikh, when his motorcycle was intercepted on Mira Road (East).
According to Senior Police Inspector Pramod Badakh of the Crime Branch Unit, the e-cigarettes, popular among youths, raise grave public health concerns. Sheikh was unable to provide valid documentation for possession or sale of these products, resulting in his arrest and impounding of his vehicle.
The seizure occurred under the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2019. An investigation is now underway to trace the source of the illegal items and explore any broader network involved in the distribution of banned electronic cigarettes.
