Delhi's Hospital Expansion: A Progress Report Amid Delays

The Delhi government's extensive hospital expansion plan is finally gaining momentum as eight of the 24 construction projects are set for completion by June 2026. An internal report from the Public Works Department (PWD) indicates substantial progress on these long-delayed institutions.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has directed the health department to unlock funds for four hospitals nearing completion. Additional instructions have been given to the PWD to finalize all ongoing work by the end of August, underscoring the administration's urgency in addressing healthcare infrastructure deficiencies.

Initiated by the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government during the pandemic years, the projects have faced repeated setbacks owing to funding issues. Key projects nearing completion include the Guru Gobind Singh, Sanjay Gandhi Memorial, and Acharya Shree Bhikshu hospitals, with new facilities planned to add significant bed capacity to the city's healthcare system.
