The healthcare system in Tripura, under the BJP-led government, is reportedly failing, with allegations of corruption and medical negligence. Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty criticized the government, highlighting that Chief Minister Manik Saha, a doctor himself, is at the helm during this crisis.
According to recent findings by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Tripura leads northeastern states in malaria and chikungunya cases despite its smaller population. The state recorded 22,412 malaria cases, nearly half the region's total, and a rise in chikungunya cases in 2024, along with a concerning increase in HIV infections.
Chakraborty also accused the government of corruption in medical hiring processes, alleging the appointment of underqualified individuals as medical officers. He criticized the government for focusing more on appearances than implementing genuine reforms and urged the chief minister to bolster the healthcare system.
