The Arunachal Pradesh government has implemented a ban on the sale and usage of Coldrif cough syrup after reports linked the medicine to the deaths of 14 children in Madhya Pradesh, an official confirmed on Wednesday.

The state's Drugs Control Department released an advisory halting the sale, distribution, and storage of Coldrif cough syrup, produced by Sresan Pharmaceutical. This action comes in response to links between the product and child fatalities in several states, including Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. A general advisory from the Director General of Health Services, Government of India, further highlighted the necessity for cautious use of the syrup in pediatric care as stated by Arunachal Pradesh Drugs Controller Dr. Komling Perme.

Health authorities have instructed stockists and retailers against acquiring or selling the syrup for public consumption. Any existing stock must be reported immediately to the local drugs control authority. Additionally, both government and private physicians have been advised to exercise care when prescribing cough syrup to children. The public is urged to avoid consumption of the product entirely.
