External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar extended his gratitude to Russia on Friday, acknowledging the country's support for India amidst the rising threat of terrorism, particularly from Pakistan. Speaking during a Victory Day event at the Russian Embassy in New Delhi, Jaishankar described terrorism as a universal threat that necessitates collective global action.

He emphasized the gravity of the situation India is facing, especially following recent military operations. The launch of Operation Sindoor by Indian Armed Forces targeted terrorist sites in Pakistan, marking a retaliatory stance after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Tensions have further escalated as Pakistan initiated artillery fire along the Line of Control in Uri, with India responding in kind. A significant development unfolded when the Pakistani military violated airspace with drones on May 7 and 8, which were subsequently intercepted by India's defense systems.

Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, in a press briefing, detailed how approximately 300 to 400 drones were dispatched by Pakistan, with many being neutralized by Indian forces using advanced tactics. The confrontation highlighted the deployment of Turkish-made Asisguard Songar drones. The Indian military effectively countered and dismantled Pakistan's large-scale drone and missile threats, including disabling an Air Defence system in Lahore. Along with these military discussions, Dr. Jaishankar commemorated the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism, underscoring its significance as a cornerstone for the modern global order. He praised India's military contributions during WWII and observed a shift towards a more balanced and pluralistic global economy.
