On July 29, a delegation from the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, led by Acting General Secretary Manindra Kumar Nath, visited Hindupara in Aldadpur village, Rangpur, following reports of communal violence, as stated in their Wednesday announcement. Key members included central organising and district general secretaries.
Hindupara, inhabited by around 2,700 Hindus, was rattled by violence reportedly sparked by a religiously insulting Facebook post from a local 17-year-old. His father handed him over to police amid ensuing rumors. On July 26, extremist groups attacked the village, vandalizing homes and chanting provocative slogans.
The situation escalated when, on July 27, a larger group further attacked the already traumatized Hindupara community, leading to more homes being vandalized and looted. The council met with law enforcement officials, urging swift arrests and enhanced safety and compensation for the impacted families.
