During his state visit to India from August 4 to 8, President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. of the Philippines expressed heartfelt sympathy for the victims of the Uttarakhand flash floods, reaffirming the centuries-old bond between the two nations. 'The Philippines is on the verge of reaching upper-middle income status by next year. Meanwhile, India's remarkable rise under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, driven by its intellectual potential and industry, has positioned the nation as the world's fourth-largest economy with significant global influence,' he stated.
President Marcos and the First Lady expressed delight in visiting India, with Marcos noting, 'As the President, it is an honor to visit the largest democracy.' He offered condolences to the Indian populace over the Uttarakhand tragedy, saying, 'Allow me to express my deepest sympathy to the Indian Nation and to those who lost loved ones in the flash floods.' Over the past two days, Marcos visited significant sites, including paying respects to Mahatma Gandhi, lauding his lasting influence.
Throughout his stay, Marcos met with Indian leaders, including President and Prime Minister Modi, discussing mutual support in combating terrorism and mourning the loss of innocent lives due to such threats.
