Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday promised aligned support and cooperation with Nepal's priorities during talks with Nepal's interim Prime Minister, Sushila Karki. This discussion took place late Thursday morning, as reported by Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
PM Karki extended her best wishes to Modi on his 75th birthday and acknowledged his message of solidarity. Highlighting the demands of the Gen Z movement, she emphasized the government's focus on elections, accountability, and corruption-free governance. Modi assured full support to Nepal's government priorities, congratulating Karki on her historic rise as Nepal's first female Prime Minister.
Karki, who previously served as Nepal's first woman Chief Justice, leads an interim government backed by the Gen Z revolution. This movement has reshaped Nepalese politics, following protests that resulted in 74 deaths. Karki's role extends till March 2026, following her appointment amid demands for political change spurred by social media bans under former PM KP Sharma Oli's regime.
