Court Blocks Immediate Deportation to Libya by Trump Administration

A federal judge has declared that the Trump administration cannot immediately deport migrants to Libya without providing them a meaningful opportunity to challenge their removal in court.

The order by US District Judge Brian E Murphy in Massachusetts followed reports that immigration officials had informed these migrants of pending deportation plans to Libya, a nation with a troubling record on human rights.

Judge Murphy previously ruled that deportations to countries other than migrants' homes require prior court arguments regarding their potential safety risks. He stressed that any imminent deportations would breach this court order.
