The Supreme Court has issued a directive to the central government, mandating the provision of accommodation to officials from the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) in Delhi within three months.
This decision stems from challenges faced by CAQM officials in securing suitable housing, as pointed out by senior advocate and amicus curiae Aparajita Singh. The directive was given by a bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan.
The CAQM, established under the CAQM Act, 2021, is responsible for the coordination, research, and resolution of issues related to air quality in the National Capital Region and surrounding areas. The commission holds the authority to take measures, issue directions, and address complaints to enhance regional air quality.
