President Droupadi Murmu has officially sanctioned the prosecution of former Union minister Lalu Prasad in the ongoing land-for-jobs scam investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), according to official reports.
The approval, as required under specific sections of the CrPC and BNSS, marks a significant step in the probe that includes a chargesheet from the ED against Prasad, his son Tejashwi Yadav, and other family members, stemming from allegations of corruption during his time as Union Railway Minister from 2004 to 2009.
The scandal, originally uncovered by the CBI, suggests that job candidates or their relatives were coerced into offering land as bribes in exchange for substitute Group D positions in the Indian Railways. The land was often registered under Prasad's family members' names, leading to multiple chargesheets in the case.
