The Supreme Court of India ruled on Thursday that Rohingya refugees in the country, if identified as foreigners by Indian law, are subject to deportation.
A bench of Justices Surya Kant, Dipankar Datta, and N Kotiswar Singh stated that identity documents issued by the UNHCR do not exempt the refugees from legal procedures under the Foreigners Act.
The court has scheduled a hearing for July 31 to address the issue conclusively.
