Escalation in Gaza: New Clashes Erupt Near Rafah
Hamas militants clashed with Israeli forces in Rafah, Gaza, signaling continued resistance. Despite Israeli control, Hamas reported ambushing soldiers, resulting in fatalities. The Israeli army confirmed soldier casualties. Recent fighting has been rare in Rafah, shifting focus to eastern Khan Younis. Israel plans to intensify its Gaza offensive post-ceasefire collapse.

Hamas militants engaged in fierce fighting with Israeli soldiers on Thursday near Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, according to the Palestinian group. The announcement via Telegram indicates that resistance remains active in areas now controlled by Israeli forces, more than 19 months into Israel's air and ground campaign.
In a subsequent statement, Hamas described an ambush on an Israeli unit in the Tanur neighborhood, launching anti-personnel and anti-armor rockets and causing multiple Israeli casualties. The Israeli army confirmed the deaths of two soldiers and severe injuries to others in Friday's statement.
Reports of combat around Rafah have been scarce in recent months, with attention focused on eastern Khan Younis and northern Gaza tensions. Following the collapse of a fragile ceasefire earlier this year, Israel announced plans to extend its operations in the region.
