An Indore court has cleared a retired army veteran and his son of serious dowry-related charges linked to the suicide of their daughter-in-law, citing insufficient evidence.
The court's decision, delivered by Additional Sessions Judge Anita Singh on May 6, exonerated 70-year-old Shriram Rajput and his son Sanjeev Kumar Rajput. They were charged under IPC sections concerning abetment of suicide and cruelty.
Sangeeta, married to Sanjeev since 2006, allegedly ended her life in September 2019 over marital disputes. Defense arguments highlighted a lack of substantial evidence, leading to their acquittal despite allegations of dowry harassment.
